Our Focus
We address militarism as a root cause of war and political violence. Militarism is a system where military priorities dominate political, economic, and cultural life. It justifies state violence as essential to security and frames others as enemies. This system, rooted in inequality and concentrated power, perpetuates insecurity and oppression. It benefits elites while harming vulnerable communities and threatening planetary survival.
Our grantmaking supports efforts that challenge militarism and advance nonviolent alternatives to political violence and war. This work complements the War Prevention Initiative (WPI), our operating program that challenges militarism and advances evidence‑based approaches to peace and environmental peacebuilding. Who We Support
Organizations aligned with this focus and working toward systemic change are the best fit:
- Grassroots organizing that builds power and influences policy
- Advocacy that mobilizes constituencies and promotes nonviolent alternatives
- Strategic communications that challenge militarism and foster cultures of peace
In limited cases, we consider research, policy development, or coalition-building when they directly reinforce these priorities.
